Awakening from the Dream: Finding Freedom Beyond Illusions 🌌

A Guide to Recognizing the Dream of Reality and Tapping into Your True Self 🌀

Welcome back to I Am Freedom on Substack! If you’re here for the first time—welcome to a space where we experiment, reflect, and grow together. If my words resonate, feel free to subscribe! But as always, don’t just take my word for it—experiment, play, and decide what works for you. ✨

What If Life Is a Dream? 🤔

Imagine this: You’re sleeping and dreaming of a nightmare. In this dream, you’re facing a tough situation—maybe you’ve lost your job, experienced heartbreak, or feel like you’re stuck in an unending loop of struggle.

But suddenly, you realize: It’s all a dream.

What would you do? Would you scramble to fix the problems within the dream? Or would you focus all your energy on waking up?

Most of us would pick option two. Why? Because solving problems in a dream doesn’t make the dream real—it only prolongs it. The true solution is to wake up. 🌅

The Waking Reality Is Also a Dream 🕊️

What if I told you this waking life—our so-called “reality”—is just another dream? A more vivid one, yes, but still a dream. In many spiritual traditions, like Vedanta, this life is referred to as Maya, the great illusion.

We are consciousness experiencing this dream through the vehicle of the physical body, with its five senses, mind, and emotions.

And just like the dream while sleeping, this waking dream has a beginning and an end. Yet, beyond the dream lies the eternal truth—our unchanging consciousness.

A Simple Experiment: Reality Check 🔍

Let’s experiment with this idea:

  1. Look around and focus on something in front of you. A wall, a window, or any object nearby. 👀

  2. Close your eyes. 🚪

  3. Now ask yourself: Is that object still there? Or is it only a memory in your mind?

If you feel even a sliver of doubt about its existence, you’ve touched upon a key insight: What we see, feel, and experience might just be projections of our consciousness, not ultimate truth.

Another Thought Experiment 🧠

Reflect on your relationships or achievements:

  • There was a time before you were in a relationship.

  • Then, you entered one—a dream shared with someone else.

  • At some point, it ended.

The relationship, no matter how real it felt, began and ended like a dream. But you, the consciousness experiencing it, remained.

DIY Practice: How to Awaken from the Dream 🌟

Awakening from this dream-like reality doesn’t mean rejecting life. Instead, it’s about seeing through the illusion to find freedom. Here’s a practice to start:

  1. Pause and Observe

    • Throughout the day, pause for a moment and observe your thoughts, emotions, and surroundings.

  2. Ask Yourself

    • “If this is a dream, what is my role in it?”

    • “What happens if I detach from this story and observe it as a witness?”

  3. Focus on Awareness

    • Shift your attention to the one constant: your awareness.

    • Notice how it watches everything without being affected.

  4. Journal Your Insights ✍️

    • At the end of the day, write about moments when you felt detached or free from the story of life.

The Freedom Beyond Dreams 🌅

When we recognize life as a dream, we stop obsessing over its temporary highs and lows. Instead, we focus on the eternal—the awareness that we are.

This doesn’t mean we stop enjoying life. On the contrary, life becomes richer and more playful when we see it for what it is—a divine game. 🎮
